Worldwake Pre-release Report

The eagerly anticipated Worldwake pre-release event occurred on 30th January without any problems. We had 20 players attend, which was a little down on the Zendikar prerelease and was a little disappointing given the addition of gunslinging, bounty hunting and prize draw going ahead on the day.
The event went ahead with 4 bounties available, Mark Glenister, Dan Gardner, Gordon Barnes and Richard Moore. The bounty system gives opponents to the above a chance to win boosters if they beat one of the bountied players. Each round the bounties role over to the next round if not taken with bounties reset to 1 for the next round if a round is lost. The tournament started out with Gordon and Rich losing their first bounty in round 1 to Andrew Curtis and Kyle Wright respectively. The 2nd round went by with no losses for the bountied players. Round 3 saw Gordon lose his 2 booster bounty to Paul Smith and Dan lost his bounty to Mark. Mark kindly added Dan's bounty to his own meaning round 4 he was defending 7 boosters!
Round 4 saw no bounties lost meaning Mark Glenister was still undefeated and would be taking on Mark Baister also on a record of 4-0. Mark Glenister's Red-White deck came though a close final round match against Mark Baister's Black-Green deck 2-1 to win the tournament. Mark's Red-White deck was an aggressive allies themed deck which included: Hada Freeblade, Join the Ranks, Highland Berserker, Tuktuk Grunts, 2 Cunning Sparkmage, Searing Blaze and Mordant Dragon.
In addition to the main event there was gun-slinging with the bountied players. All players were on top form in the gun-slinging only losing 1 booster to Jackson Curtis playing Affinity against Faeries in an extended match-up.

In the triple Worldwake draft side event Gordon Barnes and Kyle Wright fought their way through to the final with both players supporting green heavy decks. Gordon chose to splash black in his deck containing 3 Bestial Menace and a couple of Vastwood Zendikon. Kyle chose to add white to his green heavy deck supporting few Leatherback Baloth's, 3 Graypelt Hunter and an Avenger of Zendikar. Gordon took down the first game with his Vastwood Zendikon's. Kyle then took down a short 2nd game where Gordon mulliganed to 4. In a close 3rd game where it looked like Gordon was going to take the game with a Zendikon dominating the battlefield. Kyle managed to get down his mythic rare and take the game with the army of plant tokens.
